Chapter 1: "Expressing" the Complex "Truth" Simply

Example 1 is a simple case.

The singer Kiyoshi Nakajo has a song titled "Uso" ("Lie"), and its lyrics contain lines like "With the butt of a broken cigarette, I can tell your lie," and "The habit of sleeping without locking the door."

"Lies" are a form of truth without physical shape. The ""cigarette butt"" has a shape and becomes an expression of the truth, which is the "lie."
Here's how I understand the lyrics: Many long cigarette butts are left behind, some with lipstick on them. Seeing this, one can infer the instability of the heart and the presence of a woman. Women often don't smoke a cigarette to the end, so long butts suggest they belong to a woman. The habit of not locking the door suggests there might be another woman, one who hasn’t been given a spare key, who could come. The physical expressions of the cigarette butts and the key reveal the formless "lie," as I see it."
